Ahmet Can Karakadılar believes in looking through the lens of nature to tackle major problems our society faces today, such as destructive behavior, pollution, waste, and greediness. With the dedication to protect nature to regenerate a better future for humankind, his approach to architecture and design starts from creating a sustainable environment, society, and individuals.
Since beginning his architectural study at Middle East Technical University in 2013, he has participated in a variety of competitions, workshops, and projects that have allowed him to develop his sense of closing the gap between design and nature. He has worked on a variety of scales, from a wind shelter to a research complex, and has won numerous awards.
During his bachelor, Ahmet Can had the privilege to join Venice Architecture Biennale as a participant in Turkish Pavilion's Vardiya project, organized a plan to study the development of Russian Architecture in the 20th century as an Arkitera Travel Scholarship's scholar, and participated in workshops like EASA (European Architecture Student Assembly - Rijeka,Crotia-2018 and Villars Sur Ollon, Switzerland-2019) and ARKNAT (Scandinavian Architecture Festival).
In 2022, he obtained his master's degree from the same university, where he studied computational design, nature-based solutions, ecosystem services, rainwater management, and microclimate improvements in open public areas. The thesis focuses on developing a design method to optimize the water cycle and outdoor thermal comfort with nature-based solutions through street-scale rainwater management.
He spent over a year working as a concept designer at Istanbul's prestigious architectural firm Melike Altinisik Architects in 2021, where he participated in several competitions and projects focusing on concept stages and idea generation, form-finding, parametric and 3D modeling, and visualization.
Ahmet Can currently works as a freelance architect in Turkey, with the goal of continuing to provide unique ideas to improving ecosystems and communities by molding the environment around them with nature's guidance.
